CALOSTAT® Recyclebar

Sustainability

100% recyclable and a service life of over 50 years

Untersuchung der Langzeitstabilität von Silica basiertem hydrophobem Superisolationsmaterial in Bauanwendungen

CALOSTAT® does not absorb water, which protects it from mold and other forms of decay—a key factor in its long product life. Its insulating properties remain fully intact, even after 50 years.

The extraordinary longevity of the material has been confirmed by the results of climate tests, which were published in January 2020 in the journal Bauphysik. We can assume, in other words, that CALOSTAT® panels can simply be removed from a demolition project and used a second time.

DETAILselection zum Thema Recycling

There are various scenarios for reusing the material. If a building is being taken down, the insulation panels are stable and durable enough that they can simply be reused.

If the dimensions involved preclude its reuse in panel form, CALOSTAT® can instead be used as the core material in vacuum insulated panels (VIPs), as tests with VIP manufacturers have already demonstrated. Another possibility is the use of CALOSTAT® as core insulation in vertically perforated bricks. Blending CALOSTAT® remnants into the brick mixture is conceivable as well. If energy-saving demands continue to rise in the future, this could be an interesting solution for masonry construction.

Another reason why recycling is so easy is that CALOSTAT® is always mechanically installed at the construction site, which means it can be uninstalled without compromising its integrity. Even in new sandwich formats, CALOSTAT® is sewn onto plaster-bearing surfaces, making it easy to separate.
